Remember all those times you were told as a kid to “turn off the TV and go outside and play”? Turns out, mom was right.

Physical exercise improves both physical and mental health. And any amount of physical activity can help, especially if you sit all day at a computer.

Research shows sitting for prolongs periods can increase the risk of health issues like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. And as we get older, exercise is even more important to maintain mobility and strength.

A regular dose of physical activity can help reduce inflammation and lower blood pressure, improve metabolism and weight control.

In addition to elevating the chemicals in our brains that make us feel good, exercise also lowers the ones that make us feel bad or stressed. This can also help you sleep better at night so you feel more rested to take on the next day.

Plus, getting out in nature has a greater impact on mood and self-esteem.

Pro Tip: Can’t set aside 30 minutes at one time for some exercise? Break it up in shorter times and turn up the intensity.
